Dear Gold, to understand the significance of your study, you need to check are you bringing out a completely new and different solution to the exisiting problem? Are there very few studies available which provides details on the issue? If no, is your study aims to provide such details? Is the method you are using is much more fullproof in dealing with the issue? Are you recommending any concrete model at the end of the study to help SMEs, which till now has not been proposed? Answering these questions and related others will bring out the significance of the study.

To begin with your query, content and word count of a problem statement entirely depends on the study aim and scope. Like, if a study is one of a kind, bringing out an entirely novel observation, problem statement will be more explanatory. Therefore, there is no particular size frame to follow. However, in general, it sould not be more than 1.5 pages (A4 size).
