In the case of non-normally distributed variables, the first thing we approach is having the transformation of data like computing the log of variable. This enables resolving non-normality issues. Even after this if the non-normality issue is not resolved, then we go for non-parametric methods for assessment.

Good morning. Because I had two different values for kurtosis with the commands: “summarize v1,det” and “sktest v1”?.
For example in “age” of sysuse.cancer.

Hi,
sktest does not define the actual skewness or the kurtosis instead its just the normality test which is based on the skewness / kurtosis value. So, for determining correct kurtosis value use summarize.

Interested in the use of STATA for research in public policy- areas of interest: failure if government intervention policies to address poverty in low income communities and countries. My budding hypothesis is that the type of institution and culture of a particular community constitute about 90 percent of government failures.
